DANCE SHOW ON THE BOAT CRUISE
Lao traditional dance

The most popular social dances in Laos is the lam vong where couples form a circle, but before dancing the men have to greet (by nop, a traditional greeting) the woman.
Featuring delicate and precise movements of the hand, the lam vong is danced to a slow rhythm performed by a traditional orchestra of khene (series of bamboo sticks of different lengths).
The style of lam vong varies from region to region.
During the Lao New year (Pi mai Lao) and some other festivals (the baci ceremony), professional Lao dancers of different ages and styles will dance to welcoming people before celebrated the event. Some teenagers or children will perform ancient dances that have been passing down from generation to generation. Different traditional ethnic minority dances will also perform to express their cultures like the Hmong, Tai Dam and others.
Often performed along with the Lao greetings poem, the Fon uay phone was use to welcome guests to the Royal Palace. This dance was performed by only women in the Royal Court before 1975 (before the Revolution), but stepwise it became popular among the common people.
